Firetail Birdwatching Tours have been successful in applying for a commercial licence from Melbourne Water to run tours at the Western Treatment Plant (WTP). See below for details of small group tours of half a day in length. We also regularly take visitors into the permit area on private tours throughout the year.

These tours are recommended for people who have already started the journey of discovering birdlife and have an idea on some commoner species and how to identify them, through to more experienced birdwatchers. Because of the huge number of birds and great diversity of birdlife present at Werribee, this tour is likely to be a little overwhelming for your first ever day birdwatching, for which we might recommend a private tour experience

The meeting place is at Gate 5 on Pt Wilson Road where it meets Paradise road (we will provide you with a map). There is no public transport to get there so you will need to drive and then will be able to leave your car in the WTP car park just inside the locked gate. The cost is $150 per person for a 4 and a half hour tour. We typically see between 75 and 80 species of bird on these tours depending on the season ! These tours can book out quite quickly, we can keep some names in reserve as we sometimes get late cancellations. We can’t offer gift vouchers for these tours.
